Welcome on this blog full of information about the Heroes of the Golden Age of Comics, and offcourse the comics.

The Golden Age of Comic Books describes an era of American comic books, from the late 1930s to the early 1950s. During this time, modern comic books were first published and rapidly increased in popularity. The superhero archetype was created, and many famous characters debuted, including Superman, Batman, Captain America, Wonder Woman, and Captain Marvel.

The major event many cite as marking the beginning of the Golden Age was the 1938 debut of Superman in Action Comics #1, published by Detective Comics, Inc., a corporate predecessor of modern-day DC Comics. The ensuing popularity of Superman helped make comic books a major form of publishing. Companies such as Timely Comics, Quality Comics, Harvey Comics and MLJ, among others, created superheroes of their own in an effort to emulate the success of Superman.

Between 1939 and 1941, Detective Comics, Inc and its sister company All-American Publications introduced such popular superheroes as Batman and Robin, Wonder Woman, the Flash, Green Lantern, the Atom, Hawkman, and Aquaman. Timely, the 1940s predecessor of Marvel Comics, had million-selling titles that featured the Human Torch, the Sub-Mariner, and Captain America.

You can access the information and comics through the sidebar.

The comics are mostly in packages from around 100mb, inside these rar-packages you will find the comics in cbr format.

You can view the comics with any cbr-reader like CDisplay or ComicRack.  blondephantomthe

I did not scan the comics myself only collect them from various sites on the internet, internet archive, Usenet Newsgroups and torrents.
So thanks to all the scanners and uploaders.
This blog is purely ment to preserve the comics and to enjoy them, no financial meanings are involved, if you like the comics buy them as long as they are availabe, because nothing can beat the feeling of reading a real comic.

If you find something wrong (downloads, numbering, information) please let me know so that i can correct the error.

Thanks, i like usual suspects, would have been a funny name for a golden age comic heroteam, the Usual Suspects, here to protect and serve. And maybe let them fight against an evilteam called the Unusual Suspects.

I am preparing a blog with Western Comics and also working on a blog with newspaper comics. Classics like Buck Rogers, Gasoline Alley, Katzenjammer Kids, Little Orphan Annie, Mandrake, Peanuts, Spirit, and a lot of other well known and not so well known titles. There are almost 400 titles to have on this blog.

Unfortunately i had to cancel the special christmas comics blog because it is to time consuming to search all comics for christmas stories and titles and prepare them in a decent way. Perhaps next year when all my other blogs are up and running and i have more time searching these titles.

I’m glad I found you. I had over a terabyte of scans of old comics and recently my multi-terabyte drive quit working completely. I had a lot of DC, Fawcett, Quality and others and I can’t get into my scans, so I want to THANK YOU for your sites. I’ replacing what I can here and at COMIC BOOK PLUS. and will be busy here and there for a long period. Among the scans were editions of all the US CLASSICS ILLUSTRATED BOOKS in their original lengths a well as the ones edited to fewer pages and the ones redone completely in the shorter versions. I also had scans of the original FAST FICTION/ FAMOUS AUTHORS ILLUSTRATED and about 4 or 5 of the French MONDIAL AVENTURES and 20 or more Brazilian EDICAO MARAVILHOSA . These stories had not appeared in the CLASSICS series in the US. I had used an online translation site to translate several issues of these as well as the Europeon CLASSICS done after CI ceased publication in 1962. The ones you haven’t helped with are those and the various western series and I can’t afford hunt them up unless I find them on the internet for free. I am in my mid 70’s and on an extremely low iincome. Thanks for letting me cry a little and Thanks for putting so many up books I can use.

    Hi again.
For Dan Dare fans, there is a magazine called Spaceship Away. It has new retro Dare strips and other strips like Rick Random, if you could look out for any of these. that would be great. Also everyone out there should check out Dan Dare in the British Comics section, the reprint books are wonderful.
Also unable to load Captain America Comics #65 “file is broken”

Every time I try to pull up the Jungle Jim material over on the Jungle blog, I get the title pictured before it on the sidebar. So far I’ve not been able to refill my Jungle Jim books Could you check the links please? Tomorrow (Thanksgiving Day) I’ll leave my non-working external drive at my sons house hoping he will be able to get it working again because I still have a lot of stuff to recover and the back-ups I have used are not guite half of what are on that external.

Thanks a lot for what you are doing. Maybe I can help when everything is recovered.

Thank you. between your sites, my old cds and Comic book plus, I’m doing pretty good on my golden and early silver age recoveries. It just takes time. I tried getting
my bad drive recovered but our localshop says that they would have to charge me over $1,000 US to recover from get the scans off the non-working extermal drive. My complete library including 3 novellas that I wrote in 1997 and never were published were also on the drive

  11. boutje777 says:

That is ridicilous to charge for something like that in my opinion. It must be hard for you to loose especially with something you made yourself on it. I am still thinking of buying 1 other external drive to make a copy of all my comics to prevent i loose everything with 1 dead drive.

    • Don Bearden says:

I wish I had bought another external. I wouldn’t have this problem now. And now, I’m also afraid I’m going to have to get a new computer. This one is taking 10 minutes to come on and gets slower all the time. That’s all money I don’t have, but I’ll make out somehow.

I had the same thing happen shortly after Comics World was shut down 5 or so years ago and feel your pain. I have just recently started going through my old cd/dvd sd cards and old hard-drives trying to rebuild after spending much of the interim in the Android universe.

        Best of luck to you.

I apologize if you answered this question, but I seem to have lost where I posted it. Any chance of you having “More Fun Comics” with the early Superboy stories?

    Like

    • boutje777 says:

      That was in British Comics.

      This was my answer.

I am afraid i don’t have More Fun Comics, but i will look through my lists because i slightly remember something about having these. Silver Age Heroes will not be coming up soon, perhaps in the far future.

      PS.

I don’t seem to have any but if you can download from a newsserver here is a link with some More Fun, scroll to the bottom.

      More Fun

And here are alot of Superboy in More Fun, Adventure etc. Scroll down and see also the next pages for even more.

      More Superboy

Perhaps you have to scroll down and go to next pages, because in the mean time there will be probably more posts with that search option and the older ones goes down in the lists when that happens.
